Various design variations were produced from the 1930s through to the late 1960s. The Northern, Ulster, and Belfast banks left their note designs largely unaltered right up to the end of the 1960s.
Bank of Ireland's classic design of two statues of Hibernia and a row of Mercury heads saw its final appearance on the 1958 five Pound note, marking the end of a core design that had been in use for 120 years.
The National Bank changed its note designs in 1937. The Provincial Bank of Ireland modernised its notes in 1954, producing smaller size £1 and £5 notes of the new design.
