The six banks with the right of note issue in Northern Ireland each produced a new issue of banknotes for their Northern Ireland Issue that were to bear dates on or after 6.5.29. Some of the banks adapted designs previously used on their earlier issue.
Ulster Bank and Northern Bank both overprinted existing unissued notes for use in Northern Ireland.
The National Bank, Northern Bank, Belfast Banking Company, and Provincial Bank of Ireland all produced new designs for the Northern Ireland issue. Bank of Ireland notes remained unchanged except for the head office being altered from Dublin to Belfast. Ulster Bank notes had 'Northern Ireland Issue' added to the 1921 design.
