1940–1942 World War 2 Special Identification Marking (SIM), War Code (Type 4)


The war years were officially termed 'The Emergency' in the Republic of Ireland. During the period a Special Identification Marking was added to the basic A Series note design in the form of a coloured capital letter in a circle as an extra security measure to safeguard notes in transit to Ireland from England, where they were printed.

There are 12 code variations for Currency Commission SIM code banknotes
10/-: 3 codes, H; K; J, £1: 4 codes, T; B; P; V, £5: 3 codes, A; C; D, £10: 2 codes, E; F
There are 27 Ten Shilling; 25 One Pound; 23 Five Pound; and 8 Ten Pound note dates for the Currency Commission Ireland war code notes, making a total of 83 to collect
