In 1918, starting with the Bank of Ireland's reduced size One Pound note, a transformation of Irish paper money design started, when the banks began to produce smaller sized banknotes. All of the branches continued to be listed on each note.
The Bank of Ireland and Provincial Bank of Ireland issued smaller-sized multi-branch One Pound Notes; and the National Bank issued small-sized One, Five, and Ten Pound denominations. The National Bank also produced its first banknote printed on both sides, the 1920 One Pound denomination.
